Pettigru Place Bed & Breakfast Review
The Pettigru Place Bed & Breakfast near Downtown Greenville, SC is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or relaxing solo trip for one. Enjoy the comforts of this Historical Building filled with character and amazing service.
Looking for a unique place to stay in Greenville, SC?
While there are several hotels available in Downtown Greenville, my husband and I chose the Pettigru Place Bed & Breakfast just a few minutes away from Main St. for our anniversary weekend getaway.
Neither of us had been to Greenville before, so this was a completely new adventure for us. When I showed him the options for our stay, he was immediately drawn to the idea of a bed and breakfast because:
- Cozy and Quiet: The smaller building means less crowds and an easier check-in and out experience.
- Unique and Interesting: There are so many fun details in a bed and breakfast to enjoy as you walk through the house.
- Amazing Breakfasts: We are big fans of having a relaxing breakfast on our romantic getaways. It’s a lovely way to start the day, without kids, and just move slowly and relax. We loved being able to just walk downstairs and be served nearly immediately without the hustle of a normal restaurant or worrying about getting a table.
Pettigru Place was the perfect pick for our romantic getaway.
The staff were so friendly, welcoming, and helpful during the length of our visit. It was so refreshing to have such high quality customer service.

5 Reasons to Stay at This Bed & Breakfast
There are probably a lot more than just five reasons we loved our time at Pettigru Place but here are the biggest reasons I’m sure you’ll love it, too.
1. Gorgeous Historical Building
Most of the hotels in Greenville are very sleek and modern in design. If you want something that feels richer in history and comfort, you absolutely want to check out this bed and breakfast.
Fancy details and thoughtful design cover every inch of every room.
The main floor has a gorgeous breakfast room with this grand fireplace and cozy tables for two.
There are multiple quite spaces to sit and read a book or enjoy a take out meal at a private dining table on the main floor.
Every room has fun art and objects that enhance the space, even right down to the hallways and staircase.
2. Wine and Cheese Service
We drove from Charlotte to Greenville for our getaway and after a few hours in the car, it was the biggest treat to be welcomed with a wine and cheese plate in the outdoor gazebo immediately after check-in.
They serve complimentary white or red wine or beer along with a plate of grapes, cheese, and crackers from 4 – 6 pm.
You can enjoy this treat delivered to your room or in any one of the sweet spaces they’ve arranged all around the property.
3. Stunning Outdoor Spaces
There were so many sets of two chairs in the yard and garden. Plenty of options for couples to find a quite place to enjoy the wine and cheese together in a little privacy.
If I had been traveling alone, I would have taken advantage of the garden for some quiet reading time for sure.
4. Choose Your Room
My favorite part about staying in a bed and breakfast is choosing between the unique rooms available.
Pettigru Place has 6 lovely bedrooms: 5 on the second floor and 1 on the main floor.
3 rooms have king beds, 3 rooms have queen beds.
They all have unique features, mixing and matching between a private balcony or porch, clawfoot tub, whirlpool bath, and more.
You can view all the rooms available and their full descriptions here.
We stayed in the Swan Room, you can see more photos from our experience below.
The Swan Room
Our room had a large king sized bed, gorgeous fireplace, a whirlpool bathtub for 2, and a comfortable sitting area for us to chat and plan our day or relax and night.
You’ll also discover a bowl of homemade chocolate chip cookies in your room that is refillable if you need over the course of your stay!
5. Delicious Homemade Breakfast
What’s a bed and breakfast without an amazing breakfast in the morning??
At Pettigru Place, breakfast is served at 8 am or 9 am. Simply tell your host which time you prefer.
Then, arrive at the breakfast room and take your pick from tables for two or take a seat at the larger table for 8.
Breakfast is served on fine china with an arrangement of beverages in crystal goblets.
Coffee with cream, fresh juice, and water are served first.
One morning we had a three-course breakfast that featured:
- Fresh Fruit with Yogurt and Homemade Granola
- Lemon Bread with a Lemon Curd Glaze and Fresh Berries
- Scrambled Eggs on a Toasted Croissant with Parmesan Cream Sauce
The next morning we enjoyed:
- Fresh Fruit Plate
- Lemon Cookie Crusted Lemon Stuffed French Toast with Bacon and Strawberries
If you end up loving the breakfast as much as I did, you’ll want to come home and try some of the recipes yourself.
Don’t miss my copycat versions of the easy lemon curd that was used both mornings, and my take on the eggs benedict variation with parmesan cream sauce.
You will absolutely NOT leave the breakfast room hungry.
Our hostess asked us at check-in if we had any dietary restrictions of preferences so she could accommodate us during our stay.
What To Bring from Home
Everything you really need will be provided in your room at Pettigru Place.
Even though it is a bed and breakfast, the rooms still have the comforts of a hotel:
- All linens, including plenty of towels, are included
- Toiletries, including shampoo and conditioner, in the bathroom
- There’s a community fridge with complimentary soda and water in the hallway where you’re welcome to store a personal beverage if needed
When we travel from home, we always bring a box fan for white noise but that was the only extra item we needed for this stay.
Walking Distance to Downtown Greenville
The location of Pettigru Place is perfect for any downtown sightseeing, shopping, or dining you want to do.
Just a few minutes walk away from Main St. makes it a fun way to get an easy stroll in to start your day.
However, visiting in the high heat of July, we preferred to drive to our destinations and really appreciated the ease of the free parking lot as we came and went.
Is it Handicap Accessible?
Pettigru Place is a nationally registered historical building and is not equipped with an elevator.
Most bedrooms are on the second floor with 17 steps needed to access them.
There is one bedroom on the main floor but there are a short set of steps to gain entry to the house from outside.
There are no wheelchair ramps.
