Things to Do at the Greenville Zoo
Visit the Greenville Zoo during your next trip to Greenville, SC. Whether you’re traveling with kids or on a romantic getaway, this is a great way to spend a morning of your vacation.
I have a deep fondness for zoos, my kids have always enjoyed our visits when stop at major zoos when we travel.
While my husband and I were on a romantic anniversary getaway to Greenville, SC, we decided to stop in at the Greenville Zoo even though we didn’t have the kids.
If you’re interested in adding a fun highlight to your next Greenville trip, this is a great thing to add to your itinerary.
Know Before You Go
Hours
March 9 – November 5: 9 am to 5 pm daily, last admission is at 4pm.
November 6 – March 8: 10 am to 5pm daily, last admission at 4pm.
CLOSED: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Annual maintenance happens January 8 – Feb 9.

Greenville Zoo Review
My husband and I took a quick day trip to visit the Greenville Zoo during our anniversary weekend getaway to Greenville.
We spent the day alone, without the kids, but still had a great time strolling around the zoo together.
Compared to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC, the Greenville zoo feels much more walkable and manageable for a short visit.
You can easily stroll through the zoo in a couple of hours and see everything there is to see, which makes this a perfect place to take really young kids for a fun morning out or for just a relaxing, non-pressured zoo visit without feeling like you have to spend all day.
If we lived in Greenville, I would absolutely consider a zoo membership for easy visits all year long.

Things to Do at the Greenville Zoo
Whether you’re a history buff or not, there are so many wonderful things to do during a visit to Fort Clinch State Park:
1. Visit Over 90 Species of Animals
There are tons of fantastic animals to visit during your trip to the zoo. Some of our favorites included:
- Giraffes: In fact, you can view the giraffe cam right here!
- Amur Leopards: It’s estimated that only 100 are left in the wild and the zoo currently has 3 in their protection.
- African Lions
- Flamingos
- Spider Monkeys
- Tortoises
- Red Pandas
- Orangutans
The animals are housed in natural looking habitats that are designed well for you to easily be able to view them.
2. Enjoy a Tuesday Talk
Every Tuesday, there is a special presentation from one of the animal ambassadors from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

3. Visit the Red Pandas
There are only 2,500 adult red pandas in the wild and Greenville is lucky enough to have two red pandas on display.
Ahsa, a female red panda, came to Greenville from the zoo in Knoxville, TN in 2022 and can be currently spotted in the Asia corridor of the zoo.
4. Enjoy the Playground
If you’re visiting with your kids, be sure to leave some time after your zoo visit to stop at the fun playground on site.
My husband and I skipped it, but we both commented how much fun the kids would have had with this as a play area during a visit.
