If your kids are too short for rollercoasters, there are still plenty of things to do at Dollywood the whole family will love. These fun family-friendly activities make for a great theme park day.

We spent an entire day of our trip to Pigeon Forge at the Dollywood theme park. It was our very first visit ever and I was blown away by how much there was to see.

My girls were still fairly little and not quite ready to ride the amazing rollercoasters that Dollywood is famous for.

Instead, we had to seek out the fun things to do with little kids that would be much more their speed.

Thankfully, there were plenty of options for us to fill an entire day of family fun!

The Country Fair at Dollywood

We spent most of our day camped out in the Country Fair section of the park where all of the tamer rides are clustered together.

Your kids will love the traditional fair ground rides like:

  • Flying Swings
  • Spinning Teacups
  • Flying Elephants
  • A Train
  • And more . . .

The girls rode the swings over and over and over again and had the time of their lives. We could have spent the entire day in this section of the park alone.

Live Music Performances

An Irish band plays on stage at Dollywood.

Our visit was scheduled in spring, just before St. Patrick’s Day and we enjoyed watching an Irish Bluegrass band, JigJam, perform.

We had a toe-tapping great time and there were plenty of other live performances by several groups all over the park throughout the day.

No matter what time of year you visit, there is sure to be plenty of live music available for you to enjoy.

The Famous Dollywood Cinnamon Bread

Fresh warm cinnamon bread comes from the bakery here at Dollywood.

This is the ultimate theme park treat. You can’t miss it. Warm, homemade cinnamon bread is baked on site all throughout the day. Grab a loaf while it is still hot and take it with you to nibble while watching a live performance!

Be sure to grab some cinnamon bread earlier in the day or be prepared to possibly wait while they bake some more.

Cool Crafts on Display

An on-site glass blower made these round glass ornaments.

We watched an artisan glass blower making custom souvenirs for guests. Such a unique thing to bring home to remember your trip!

The Dolly Parton Museum: Chasing Rainbows

My kids still talk about the time we spent in the Dolly Parton museum looking at her own personal memorabilia from her long musical career.

The kids loved seeing the multicolored coat from the Dolly Parton Christmas movie on display, too!

The Firechaser

While they were too small for most of the big rollercoasters in the park, my girls rode their very first real rollercoaster while we were at Dollywood.

There are no upside down turns or too-big drops, but it is fast and a little twisty. Plenty of screams were had.

You can see some video footage of the ride right here. If your family really enjoys rollercoasters, you can read reviews of several more rides at Dollywood here.
