Lulu’s Restaurant: A Review
Lucy Buffett’s Lulu’s in North Myrtle Beach is the best place to go hear some live music in the summertime while the kids play nearby.
When you’ve been married almost 20 years and you’ve spent the last 13 of those as a parent, your weekend life can tend to look a little monotonous.
We’ve tried to get out on more frequent date nights, we’ve bought tickets to more shows in the last year than we have in the several years before that. But life is busy and those things can be tricky to arrange.
After a long day in Myrtle Beach, I was exhausted. Nothing sounded better to me than putting on my pj’s and crawling into the king-sized bed in our condo. The kids hadn’t had dinner, but Tim and I were still stuffed from lunch.
I reluctantly agreed to treating the kids to a quick ice cream on the way to the grocery store to grab a frozen pizza to bake in our condo oven. That ice cream spot happened to be right next door to a placed called Lulu’s that was so enticing, it pulled us in with some sort of magic and got me to abandon my pj dreams altogether.
The first thing we noticed, the giant sandpit with colorful adirondack chairs.
Then my husband heard the strains of live music drifting from inside.
The next thing we knew, we were hunkered down at a table right in front of the band having the most enjoyable and unexpected evening together.

What is the restaurant like?
Lulu’s is located right on the waterfront and features a giant outdoor sandpit with a play fountain, corn hole, rope course, adirondack chairs for lounging, and easy access to the sounds of the live music playing inside. It is quite possibly the most perfect place to go grab a couple of drinks with your spouse and relax while the kids run around and play nearby.
Inside the restaurant, the place feels like you’re hanging out in your best friends garage listening to the local band play in the driveway. Everything feels comfortable, relaxed, and easy going.
We stopped in at Lulu’s at 7:30 pm one evening during our beach trip. None of us were especially hungry but we were drawn in by the live music playing inside.
We got a table down front, ordered a couple rounds of drinks and some nibbles for the kids. We’ve fallen into the habit of really only going out specifically for a traditional dinner meal, so this felt a little strange at first. But, we ended up having such a fun time and isn’t that what vacation is all about?? Doing things a little outside of the norm?
It makes me want to look up some more live music places here in Charlotte now that we’re home. How I wish we had a place like Lulu’s here!
Who’s playing at Lulu’s tonight?
I just love that they have live music every single night. If you want to look up tonight’s entertainment, you can find their full musical line-up here.
Who is Lucy Buffett?
I felt totally ridiculous asking this of our server when we sat down. Lulu’s wasn’t even remotely on our radar, we had no idea what we were walking into. But seeing Lucy’s name on the sign above the door, I started to wonder if she was Jimmy Buffett’s wife. It turns out, she is actually his little sister. You can read more about Lucy Buffett here.
